Product Description

Ludwig von Beethoven made some of the most powerful and inspiring music ever created. His nine symphonies and countless smaller works made him a giant star in his day - the late 18th and early 19th centuries. But the pressures of fame also made this temperamental and fragile soul go through extreme anguish and raging self doubts. For Beethoven's personality was as intense, unwieldy and extreme as his music. He was filled with contradictions.

For example, though he grew to be incredibly rich, he dressed like a pauper and scorned the delicate social mores of his aristocratic patrons; though supportive of populist anti-aristocratic causes, he spent a good part of his fortune in court in a failed attempt to prove he had a noble heritage. And, most tragic of all, the man who gave the world such powerful music became totally deaf by the time he was 40.

A gloomy failure in romance, erratic and bombastic with his patrons and fans, often isolated and lonely, Beethoven's personality is as complex as his creations.

Synopsis:

As wise and funny as it is thrilling and original? The story of two young men on an impossible adventure.

A writer visits his retired grandparents in Florida to document their experience during the infamous siege of Leningrad. His grandmother won't talk about it, but his grandfather reluctantly consents. The result is the captivating odyssey of two young men trying to survive against desperate odds.

Lev Beniov considers himself "built for deprivation." He's small, smart, and insecure, a Jewish virgin too young for the army, who spends his nights working as a volunteer firefighter with friends from his building. When a dead German paratrooper lands in his street, Lev is caught looting the body and dragged to jail, fearing for his life. He shares his cell with the charismatic and grandiose Kolya, a handsome young soldier arrested on desertion charges. Instead of the standard bullet in the back of the head, Lev and Kolya are given a shot at saving their own lives by complying with an outrageous directive: secure a dozen eggs for a powerful colonel to use in his daughter's wedding cake. In a city cut off from all supplies and suffering unbelievable deprivation, Lev and Kolya embark on a hunt to find the impossible. A search that takes them through the dire lawlessness of Leningrad and the devastated surrounding countryside creates an unlikely bond between this earnest, lust-filled teenager and an endearing lothario with the gifts of a conman.

Set within the monumental events of history, "City of Thieves" is an intimate coming-of-age tale with an utterly contemporary feel for how boys become men.

THE FOURTH PERIMETER
Audio Book by Tim Green

READ BY RON PERLMAN

fourth

Wherever the President of the United States goes, four perimeters of protection surround him. The fourth and final perimeter is a nearly impenetrable ring of agents, the commander in chief's literal bodyguards.

Kurt Ford is a former Secret Service agent who has become a successful high-tec entrepreneur. A widower with one child, his proudest achievment is his son, Collin, a young Secret Service agent assigned to guard the U.S. president. But on a foggy night in Georgetown, Collin's body is found in his apartment and the police rule the death a suicide. Devastated, Ford knows his son would never take his own life, and he becomes suspicious when he discovers that several other young agents have also died, presumably because they all had witnessed a strange, secret meeting involving the president at a remote Maryland farmhouse.

Ford becomes obsessed with finding the truth. Shockingly, the trail of evidence leads to none other than the President of the United States. Although Kurt Ford is a man at the pinnacle of power and on the verge of a new marriage, he plots to do the unthinkable - assassinate the president. But when he sets his plan in motion, he quickly discovers how much he really has to lose - and what dark forces are waiting for him to make his next move.

Music by Don Davis and Lee Holdridge

If you’re a fan of one of the most original, magical and truly romantic televisions shows to have aired during the years 1987-1990 then you’ll forever be enchanted by 'Beauty and the Beast: Of Love and Hope' an exceptionally beautiful and inspiring CD. Ron Perlman’s beloved and heroic character “Vincent” reads timeless poetry by some of the great poets including Shakespeare, Lord Byron, Shelly, and Rilke in sensuous detail where every word, every emotion is engulfed in gorgeous music.

Listening to “Beauty and Beast: Of Love and Hope” brought me back to a place where romance, kindness, heroism, beauty and love could span across time and never be broken.

'Beauty and the Beast: Of Love and Hope' are about three of my most favorite things…true love, poetry and music.
